It is operations where the business owner is
going to feel comfortable. This is where the business owner can feel like they are producing real results. Results can be
measured by output. Business owners naturally equate results to the ability to efficiently produce products and services.
While efficient productivity is important, the business
owner has to move towards a different productivity factor where results are measured in obtaining sustainable profits and
ensuring the company will be around tomorrow. The business owner has the right knowledge but usually doesn’t have the
tools to make it actually happen. That is, the business owner has all of the answers but doesn’t know what question
to ask. Sustainable growth comes from the business owner being effective at running the business,
not being efficient in operations. But day-to-day events naturally pull the business owner into operations and away from staying
focused on the real job of running the company as an owner. Changing roles from an efficient producer in operations to an
effective business owner is not easy. The good news is all the tools the business owner needs to successfully run the business
can be learned.
